Crime Blotter: Credit Card Swipe Machine Stolen From Post Office
Police state the investigation is ongoing and detectives are awaiting information from postal authorities in regards to the incident.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Aug. 29-Sept. 3: The Garden City Police Department participated in the Statewide “Stop DWI Campaign” by implementing extra DWI patrols. As a result, four individuals were arrested for DWI offenses and one individual was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation.
Aug. 29: Officer responded to a two-vehicle auto accident on Franklin Ave. at Ninth St. The operator of one vehicle, a female 26-year-old from Bay Shore, received a minor injury and refused medical attention. The operator of the other vehicle, a male 42-year-old from Hempstead, was not injured, but was arrested for an outstanding Nassau County warrant for DWI. He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation (four open license suspensions) and unlicensed operation.

Aug. 29: Officers responded to the Stewart Manor railroad crossing where an unknown truck struck and damaged one of the railroad gates. The area was safeguarded until the gate was replaced by the MTA.
Aug. 30: Officer Reilly arrested a male 31-year-old from Glen Oaks for the theft of two designer watches totaling $446 from Lord & Taylor.

Aug. 30: Upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 23-year-old from Richmond Hill for the theft of an iPhone from a backpack in Woodruff Hall at Adelphi University on Aug. 23.
Aug. 31: Several slats to a fence of a Meadow St. residence were found damaged.
Aug. 31: A hood ornament was removed from a vehicle parked in Field 7N.
Sept. 1: Upon responding to a report of a domestic incident at a Garden City residence, Officer Walsh arrested a female 37-year-old from Garden City for endangering the welfare of a minor for placing her two-year-old child on top of a vehicle that was backing out of the driveway which was being operated by the child’s father.
Sept. 1: Officer Florio observed a vehicle northbound on Main St. making a right turn onto Franklin Ave. without stopping and proceeding to go north in the southbound lanes before swerving back into the northbound lanes and striking a curb. Officer Florio stopped the vehicle and subsequently arrested the operator, a male 25-year-old from Staten Island, for DWI (refused test), three unsafe turn/lane violations, unlicensed operation and defective brake lights.
Sept. 2: Garden City detectives observed several persons in one of the dugouts at Community Park. Upon closer inspection, they observed one of the persons in the dugout, a male 18-year-old from West Hempstead, to be in possession of a bag of alleged marijuana. He was arrested and charged with marijuana possession.
Sept. 2: Officer Petraglia and other officers responded to the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island on Old Country Road for a fight. Upon arrival, it was determined that two females attending a party were involved in a fight with each other when one of them stabbed the other in the back with a broken piece of glass. The subject, a female 35-year-old from Brentwood, then stabbed a male victim in the wrist as he tried to break up the fight. Both victims, a female 24-year-old and a male 33-year-old, both from Brentwood, received lacerations and were transported to Winthrop-University Hospital for treatment. The subject was arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault and for criminal possession of a weapon.
Sept. 2: Upon an investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a female 21-year-old from Brooklyn for leaving the scene of a property damage two-car accident that occurred on Clinton Rd. on Aug. 26.
Sept. 3: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle traveling north on Franklin Ave. after observing it unsafely moving from lane to lane without signaling. The operator, a male 38-year-old from Locust Valley, was stopped and after an investigation was arrested for DWI (.11 percent blood alcohol content), two lane violations, uninsured operation and an equipment violation.
Sept. 3: While on patrol on Old Country Rd., Officer Russell observed a vehicle eastbound in the westbound lanes. He stopped the vehicle and subsequently the operator, a male 30-year-old from Valley Stream, was arrested for DWI (.15 percent blood alcohol content), driving on the wrong side of the road, excessive tinted windows and cracked windshield.
Sept. 3: The department is investigating a burglary at a Roosevelt St. residence where a second floor window screen was found cut. The intruder apparently entered the premise though the window but fled the scene upon the activation of a burglary alarm.
Sept. 4: A credit card swipe machine was stolen from the Garden City Post Office on Franklin Ave. Patch requested further information from police regarding the incident, specifically whether there's been reports of unauthorized charges on resident cards, what time of day the machine was stolen (after hours?) and whether or not the post office informed customers that their credit card accounts may have been compromised. Police could only tell us that the investigation is ongoing and detectives are awaiting information from postal authorities in regards to these issues.
Sept. 4: Officers responded to a traffic condition at the intersection of Clinton Rd. and Stewart Ave. where a large tractor trailer became disabled and could not be moved, causing major delays for westbound and northbound traffic. The officers immediately safeguarded the scene and diverted all traffic until the vehicle could be towed away.
Sept. 4: With the commencement of the new school year, the department is currently conducting an aggressive driving campaign where special patrols will be assigned to address aggressive driving violations throughout the village with an emphasis on school zone excessive speed violations.
