Nassau Domestic Dispute; Female Victim Slapped, Kicked: Police
Devon Mertzel faces charges of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
EAST GARDEN CITY, NY — A domestic disturbance has led to a 24-year-old man's arrest, police said.
It happened Tuesday afternoon at the Avalon Apartment Complex at Mitchel Field Way in East Garden City.
Devon Mertzel was involved in a verbal argument altercation with a 20-year-old female victim, authorities said.

It escalated into a physical altercation resulting in Mertzel forcefully taking her iPhone and MacBook laptop. Mertzel began to kick the victim in the stomach, bite her left hand and strike her with the back of his hand across her face, police said.
Subsequent to the investigation, officers spotted an unloaded Smith & Wesson handgun, authorities said.

Mertzel is charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
