Driver Crashed Into House After Medical Episode: Garden City PD

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Sept. 1.
Aug. 26
- A 59-year-old was driving east on Garden Street when they suffered an apparent medical episode, causing their car to mount the curb and hit the front stoop and porch of a residence. The driver and his 46-year-old passenger were transported to Winthrop Hospital for medical treatment. The resident and pets inside the home at the time of the accident were not injured.
- A 26-year-old man was arrested on Meadow Street for driving with nine license suspensions and an improper license plate.
- A delivery truck struck and damaged the portico at the Garden City Country Club. The 20-year-driver was not injured.
- Detectives cited four 15-year-old youths for trespassing on the roof of the Stratford School storage facility.

- Garden City firefighters assisted the Mineola Fire Department with a serious building fire on Jericho Turnpike.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Franklin Avenue at approximately 1:50 a.m., officers arrested a 35-year-old woman for DWI and driving without the vehicle’s headlights activated.
- A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Meadow Street.
- Officers investigated a report of someone scratching the passenger side of a vehicle parked on Garfield Street.
- A vehicle was stopped for speeding on Franklin Avenue resulting in the arrest of a 32-year-old man for DWI and excessive speed.
Aug. 28
- As a result of a police investigation on Franklin Avenue, officers arrested a 24-year-old man for outstanding Nassau County warrants for criminal contempt, bail jumping and aggravated unlicensed operation.
- A 28-year-old driver was charged with passing a stop sign on Meadow Street and driving with a suspended license.

- A resident reported two fraudulent transactions were made against her bank account for a total loss of $30,000.
- Firefighters extinguished a garbage fire on the grounds of St. Paul’s.
- Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Ring Road.
- Upon investigation of reports of disorderly activity at 10:45 p.m., five youths were cited for trespassing on the grounds of the high school.
- Two vehicles on Brook Street were rummaged through with no loss reported.
Aug. 30
- An officer saw a driver sleeping in a vehicle stopped in the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Old Country Road. The driver's foot was on the brake pedal and the transmission was in drive. The officer was able to carefully wake the driver and have the vehicle placed in the park position. Upon investigation, the driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested for DWI, possession of marijuana, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.
- Officers rescued a worker who was locked inside a Franklin Avenue building due to a faulty door lock. Officers were able to open the door allowing the worker to exit.
Aug. 31
- A resident reported her identity was stolen and used to open an unauthorized $100,000 loan.
- Upon investigation of an Aug. 25 accident on Rockaway Avenue, a 33-year-old man was arrested for leaving the scene.
Sept. 1
- Officers arrested a 52-year-old man for the theft of several packages of candy from CVS.
- Upon investigation of a license plate reader alert, a 51-year-old driver was charged with driving with a revoked registration on Franklin Avenue.
- Upon investigation, Garden City Detectives arrested a 55-year-old man for the theft of a leaf blower from a landscaper’s trailer parked on Brook Street.
