Easter Egg Hunt Draws Thousands to Community Park

The event has been a celebrated Garden City tradition for over 25 years.

Garden City's annual Easter egg hunt drew thousands of residents to Community Park Saturday morning to kick off the holiday weekend.

The hunt began promptly at 10 a.m. At 9:59, thousands of Easter eggs, generously supplied by the Garden City Recreation Department, littered the fields at Garden City's Community Park. By 10:20 a.m., the field seemed almost clear once again, with the eggs and assorted chocolates gathered happily into the Easter baskets of hundreds of Garden City children.

Recreation Program Supervisor Sandy Young said she was thrilled to have such beautiful weather this year as the event was postponed last year due to rain. The event has been a celebrated Garden City tradition for over 25 years.

Madison Dragotto, 4, was one of the lucky winners who found a special egg entitling her to a round of free mini golf at Community Park. Other grand prizes included three Easter baskets stuffed full of assorted candy, toys and games.

Joseph Gisolfi, 8, and friend James McQuaid, 8, both of Garden City, worked together and strategized the perfect way to maximize the number of eggs they would be able to collect, by running to the farther parts of the field first. The pair estimates they were able to stuff over 50 eggs into their baskets.

Austin Crouchley, 6, with sister Caroline, 4, and brother John, 2, also worked together as a team to collect lots of goodies.

Happy Easter From Garden City Patch!
