Exploring the Cub Scout Exhibit at the Library
Fun events and activities are highlighted at the Garden City Public Library.
The showcases at the Garden City Public Library are alive with colorful items important to Cub Scouts, and specifically to the 57 boys in Pack 55: Pinewood Derby cars, sparkling trophies, photos, Cub Scout uniforms and more.
The exhibit was created by Joe Bereswill, who is Den leader for his twin sons' den. Students who contributed to the exhibit include Joseph Bereswill, James and Timothy DeMaro, Christopher Donohue, Danny LaRose, Zachary Ortiz, Blaise Takvor and Owen Williams.
“The items featured in our annual Garden City Library exhibit are merely a microcosm of the numerous ongoing trips, character and team building exercises, educational programs and fun-filled indoor and outdoor activities that Cub Pack 55 provides for its Scouts throughout the year," said Kim DeMaro, Den leader for her son’s two dens and also the Pack committee chair.

"The strength of the Scouting program is the diversity of activities and opportunities it offers to its Scouts. Scouts have the opportunity to participate in overnight campouts, hikes and other traditional outdoor activities, as well to earn merit badges in over 50 subject areas in topics ranging from soccer and baseball to video games, mathematics, and geology.”
Boy Scout Cub Pack 55, which is sponsored by the internationally recognized, 135-year-old historic Cathedral of the Incarnation in the heart of Garden City, is an inter-denominational organization dedicated to providing ongoing cultural, educational and social fun and enrichment for boys in grades 1-5 who attend any elementary school in our village. They are the largest Cub Pack in Garden City and surrounding communities.

DeMaro added, “The Cub Scout program is a parent-child endeavor. Parents recognize and understand the importance that Scouting plays in enhancing our children's educational process and in helping them develop strong character and team spirit. To that end, parent involvement, in one form or another, is vital to our success. At Pack 55, we're fortunate to have a cadre of wonderful parents committed to helping our programs succeed.”
Recent activities include the "Cub-Parent Weekend" at the Boy Scout Association-owned Schiff campground in Wading River and visiting the “USS Intrepid” in Manhattan. Upcoming events include a Yankees game, the annual overnight camp-out on the grounds of the Cathedral, an annual camp-in at the Franklin Institute of Science in Philadelphia, hikes throughout the year and more.
Elementary aged boys are eligible to join Pack 55. Enrollment begins now for the year starting in September. Contact Kim DeMaro at 516-741-4760 or kdemaro@aol.com.
