
Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team ranks among the nation's top teams in several statistical categories, according to the final NCAA Division II statistics for the 2012 season. The Panthers led the country in a pair of defensive team stats and had a handful of athletes rank in the top 10 in individual marks.
Adelphi finished first in all of Division II in defensive saves (28) and saves per game (11.35), and ranked fifth in save percentage (81.9).
In turn, several individuals found themselves nationally ranked in the aforementioned categories. Senior goalie and Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team member Kristine Puzio stood among the nation's elite goaltenders, finishing third in saves per game, seventh in save percentage and 12th in goals against average. Reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Year Molly Cuevas finished third among the nation's freshman with 1.4 points per game, which was good for 26th among all players. Finally, a trio of Panthers finished in the top seven in defensive saves: Briana Rubenstein (tied for third), Emilee Rahner (sixth) and Jami DeGrote (tied for seventh).
Adelphi finished the season with an overall record of 8-12 and a 6-4 mark in conference play, including the first home playoff win in program history with a 4-3 win over Southern Connecticut in the NE-10 Quarterfinals.
