Fire At Hempstead Auto Shop Spreads To Deli Next Door: Officials

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A fire at an automotive repair shop in Hempstead spread to the deli next door early Monday morning, fire marshals said.

According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office, the Hempstead Fire Department responded to a one-story row of two stores on Main Street after they received a call for building smoke at 2:57 a.m.

Approximately 40 firefighters brought the small fire, which was located in the office of the car repair shop, under control within 30 minutes, fire marshals said.

Main Deli, the shop next door, was not immediately available for comment when Patch reached out.

No injuries were reported, and the local building department was notified, according to fire marshals.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by Uniondale, West Hempstead, Rockville Centre, Garden City, Freeport, and South Hempstead – all under the command of Chief Clark, fire marshals said.

The NCFM's Office and NCPD Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating the fire, officials said.
