Florida, California Men Arrested After Fight At Hotel: GC Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Aug. 26.
- A vehicle parked on Whitehall Boulevard was rummaged through on Aug. 19 with no loss reported. Another vehicle on Huntington Road was rummaged through with no loss reported.
- Officers arrested a 26-year-old man on Washington Avenue on Aug. 19 for driving with nine license suspensions, unsafe lane usage and an outstanding Hempstead traffic warrant.
- A 37-year-old driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue with a revoked registration and uninsured operation on Aug. 19.
- A 23-year-old driver was charged with passing a stop sign on Meadow Street and driving with a suspended license on Aug. 20.
- On Aug. 20, an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and passing a red light on Franklin Avenue and determined the driver was a victim of a shooting that occurred in Hempstead. The officer then flagged down a passing ambulance and the victim, who suffered three gunshot wounds, was transported to Winthrop Hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing.
- Garden City detectives arrested a 38-year-old man from the Bronx on Aug. 21 for cashing a forged check in an 82-year-old victim's name. He was charged with identity theft, possession of a forged instrument and larceny.
- As a result of an investigation on 4th Street on Aug. 21, a 30-year-old driver was charged with driving with illegal license plates, unregistered vehicle, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.
- A truck traveling north was damaged after striking the Cherry Valley Avenue overpass on Aug. 21. The driver, a 47-year-old man from Queens, was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs. No injuries were reported.
- A wallet was reported stolen from a car parked on Kingsbury Road on Aug. 22, and money was reported stolen from another car.
- Officers arrested a 39-year-old man from Selden on Clinton Road and Chestnut Street on Aug. 22 for driving with 15 license suspensions and using a portable handheld device while driving.
- Upon investigation of a dispute at the Residence Inn on Aug. 23, Garden City detectives arrested a 28-year-old man from Florida for criminal possession of a loaded firearm. In addition, detectives arrested a 27-year-old man from California for punching a 22-year-old man from Florida in the face several times resulting in facial and eye injuries. He was charged with assault. The victim was transported to Winthrop Hospital for treatment.
- Packages were reported stolen from a Hampton Road porch on Aug. 23.
- Officers investigated a burglary of a first-floor apartment at 67 Hilton Ave. on Aug. 23. The apartment was apparently entered through an open courtyard window. Proceeds included several pieces of jewelry. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after being in a collision with another vehicle on Old Country Road on Aug. 23. There were no reported injuries.
- A large tree branch fell and damaged a vehicle traveling on Clinton Road on Aug. 23. No injuries were reported.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after it struck and damaged a vehicle parked on Franklin Court on Aug. 23.
- The police department investigated a report of unauthorized charges totaling $400 against a resident’s debit card account on Aug. 24.
- A 21-year-old driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue West with a suspended registration and excessive speed on Aug. 24.
- Firefighters rescued people stuck in malfunctioning elevators in a Franklin Avenue building and in a 7th Street building on Aug. 24.
- Officers investigated a report of a truck leaving the scene after being in a collision with another vehicle on Stewart Avenue East on Aug. 24.
- A large tree branch fell on Garden Street blocking traffic on Aug. 25. The Garden City Parks Department responded and cleared the location.
- Firefighters and officers responded to the Residence Inn for a fire alarm activation on Aug. 25. It was determined the alarm was caused by burnt food.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding with another vehicle on Rockaway Avenue on Aug. 25.
