Florida Man Killed Cyclist While Careening Through Traffic: NCPD
Police say the man was driving while impaired, and caused multiple crashes while driving a truck through traffic.
GARDEN CITY, NY — A Florida man was arrested in Garden City Friday afternoon after police say he drove a truck into a bicyclist and killed him.
According to police, Matthew Mummaw, 33, of Jacksonville, Florida, was driving a bucket truck south on Merchants Concourse at 4:37 p.m. when he hit five cars that were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Corporate Drive.
Police say he continued south on Merchants Concourse, where he hit a bicyclist on the Meadowbrook Parkway overpass. Mummaw then made a right turn onto Stewart Avenue, police said, and got into a head-on crash with two more cars before finally coming to a stop.

Officers arrived at the scene and took Mummaw to a hospital. The bicyclist, a 39-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mummaw was charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehiular manslaughter, second-degree reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an incident, two counts of driving while ability impaired, reckless driving and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
