Garden City Boys Lax Atop National Rankings

The Trojans are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation after an 11-0 start.

The Garden City Trojans boys lacrosse program is no stranger to success.

Last season the Trojans won their second consecutive Long Island Class B Championship after defeating Suffolk champion Shoreham-Wading River 9-4 in the final game of the season.

Garden City took on the same Shoreham-Wading River team Saturday with an even more impressive result: a 13-4 win [paid link].

The win puts the Trojans' record at 11-0 and has them ranked as the top team in the nation, according to multiple lacrosse polls.

Inside Lacrosse has Garden City ranked No. 1, ahead of Long Island teams such as Chaminade, St. Anthony's, West Islip and Smithtown West.

In 2010, the Trojans finished the season with an 18-4 record and were ranked 21st in the nation, according to LaxPower.com.

Last season, the Trojans finished with a 19-3 record and a No. 5 ranking on LaxPower.com.

However, like Inside Lacrosse, LaxPower.com has the Trojans ranked as the No. 1 team in 2012.

Garden City boasts and impressive roster, led by senior Devin Dwyer, who currently leads Nassau County in points (68), according to Newsday.

Dwyer, who is headed to Harvard University next season, was named as the East Region's player of the week by ESPN earlier in April after an impressive showing against one of Pennsylvania's top teams.

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, the Harvard-bound attackman put on a offensive display in Pennsylvania. Dwyer tallied nine points on six assists and three goals in a 12-11 victory over the previous POWERADE FAB 50 No. 1 team Conestoga (Berwyn, Pa.). After the win, Garden City made a big leap in the rankings and Dwyer has made a name for himself outside of Long Island.

The Trojans' next game is at home against Kennedy High School on May 2 at 4:30 p.m. There are four games remaining in the regular season.
