Garden City Captures County Championship

Garden City football is back on top in Nassau with a 42-14 victory over rival Carey high school. Chris Mixon and Jack Bill score twice each.

Garden City put their undefeated season on the line in the Nassau County Championship game at Hofstra on Saturday against a tough Carey team but came out on top by virtue of 28 unanswered points. After Carey jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Garden City's running game took over, highlighted by an 86 yard scamper by Jack Bill, the first of his two scores, in the second quarter to put GC up 21-7 going into the locker room for halftime. For the game, Garden City fell just shy of 400 yards on the ground with Chris Mixon picking up 166 yards and two scores along with several key third down runs. The Trojans also had a six yard TD pass from Colin Hart to Harry Blair in the second quarter and a 5 yard scoring run by Joey D'Errico to close out the scoring late in the fourth quarter.

Garden City's defense came up big when they had to, holding the high powered offense of Carey to 253 yards and only two scores, coming up with two key interceptions when Carey had the ball inside the 40.

The Trojans move on to Stony Brook University on Sunday, the 27th, to play Suffolk Champ Half Hollow Hills West at noon.
