Garden City House Fire Marks 38th In February, 3 People Displaced: NCFM

A house fire on Friday was the 13th working fire in Nassau County last week, fire marshals say.

GARDEN CITY, NY — A Garden City house fire displaced three residents on Friday, fire marshals said.

This fire marked the 13th working fire in Nassau County last week and the 38th in February – it was also the 8th multiple-alarm fire this month, fire marshals said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said the Garden City Fire Department was dispatched at 11:40 on February. 20 to a 3-story home on Stewart Ave., near Washington Ave.

The fire escalated to a third alarm, and it was contained after about 2 1/2 hours with 90 firefighters on scene, fire marshals said. No injuries were reported, fire marshals said.

According to fire marshals, the Village of Garden City Building Department was on scene to assess the damage to the structure, and the NCFM Investigators and NCPD Arson Bomb Squad Detectives were on scene working to determine the cause of the fire.

GCFD had mutual aid assistance from fire departments with Mineola, Uniondale, Hempstead, Carle Place, Garden City Park, Westbury, Franklin Square & Munson, Stewart Manor, New Hyde Park, Floral Park, and Elmont – all firefighting operations were under the command of Chief Taunton of the GCFD, fire marshals said.
