Garden City Housing Decision Upheld As Discriminatory

A federal judge ruled that the village was trying to keep black people out with its zoning decision.

A judge last week upheld a ruling that said the Village of Garden City was discriminating when it passed a zoning ordinance to not allow apartments to be built on a parcel of land.

According to Newsday, the judge ruled that the panel that decided to allow single-family townhouses to be built instead of multi-family housing was discriminating.

The judge said the panel was influenced by opposition who didn't want people moving into the village because of their race.
