Garden City Officer Rescued Family From Fire

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending June 10.
- Officers were assigned to traffic control details for a demonstration on Old Country Road on June 3.
- Officers investigated a two-vehicle accident on 11th Street on June 3. One of the drivers, a 24-year-old man from Elmont, was charged with driving with a suspended license. There were no reported injuries.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a Sunset Lane residence for an outdoor air conditioning unit fire on June 4.
- A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Chestnut Street on June 4. Other vehicles in the area were rummaged through with no loss reported.
- Officers were assigned to traffic control details for a demonstration and press conference on South Drive on June 4.
- A 39-year-old was arrested on Clinton Road and charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- While on patrol on 10th Street at 6:25 a.m. on June 5, an officer observed flames from an outdoor air-conditioning unit going up the side of a house. He evacuated the residents. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire.
- Officers and firefighters responded to 1st Street for an electrical transformer fire on June 5.
- Units were assigned to monitor and provide traffic details on Commercial Avenue, Clinton Road, and Washington Avenue, for a rally and march that commenced in Hempstead on June 5.
- Officers were assigned to traffic safety details for a rally and march on Franklin Avenue on June 6. Officers were assigned to another march and rally on Old Country Road and various side streets. Officers were also assigned to monitor a planned demonstration at the Roosevelt Field Mall.
- Officers assisted the fire department who rescued two people stuck in an elevator inside a Stewart Avenue Apartment Complex on June 6.
- Officers responded to Grove Street for a fallen tree limb on June 6.
- Upon investigation of a domestic incident, Garden City detectives arrested a 38-year-old man from Syosset for violation of a court order to refrain from specific actions. He was charged with criminal contempt.
- Upon investigation of a disturbance in Garden City Plaza on June 6, a 17-year-old was arrested on an outstanding New York State Family Services warrant.
- Officers responded to a water line break on New Hyde Park Road and Stratford Avenue on June 7.
- Officers were assigned to traffic details for a rally held on County Seat Drive, Old Country Road, and Washington Avenue on June 7.
- Officers investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from a Prospect Avenue home on June 8. Upon responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in New Hyde Park which matched the description of the stolen vehicle, officers located the stolen vehicle and 32-year-old man from New Hyde Park. He was charged with grand larceny.
- Officers were assigned to traffic details for a rally and march on Old Country Road, County Seat Drive, and Washington Avenue on June 8.
- A Glen Cove landscaping company was charged with the operation of a truck on Clinton Road with a revoked registration as well as numerous equipment violations on June 8.
- The FAA reported a green laser light illuminated the cabin of an airliner flying over South Avenue on June 9. Officers responded to the area to investigate the origin of the laser. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers were assigned traffic safety details for a rally and march on Franklin Avenue, 12th Street, 11th Street, and Washington Avenue on June 9.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Rockaway Avenue on June 9, officers arrested a 23-year-old man from Mineola, for DWI, excessive speed, passing a red light, improper turn and unlicensed operation.
