Garden City OKs $8 Million For New Water Tower

The money would replace the 83-year-old water tower on Maria Lane.

On June 15, Garden City Village Trustees unanimously approved a $8.7 million bond resolution to replace the water tank on Maria lane.

The board has not yet decided how it is going to pay for the tank. But by passing the resolution, it can bond all or part of the cost of the replacement. The board still has to choose one of three styles of tank for the replacement. All three styles will go out to bid.

Officials say the work will take between six months to a year to complete, depending on the style of tank.

The water tank was originally constructed in 1933, and was last rehabilitated in 1992. The village made emergency repairs to the tank due to roof leaks and holes in 2015.
