Garden City Police Charge 11-Year-Old With Stealing Bicycle

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Aug. 12.
- Credit cards were reported stolen from a car parked at the Garden City Country Club on Aug. 5.
- Upon receiving a notification of a youth stealing a bicycle on 7th Street on Aug. 5, Garden City detectives searched the area and located the youth on the bicycle in Parking Field 2S. The 11-year-old youth was charged as a juvenile for larceny.
- Upon investigation of the theft of a wallet and handbag from inside the Garden City Hotel on July 18, detectives arrested a 59-year-old woman from Carle Place for the thefts on Aug. 6. She was charged with grand larceny and petty larceny.
- A truck traveling north struck the Cherry Valley Avenue train overpass on Aug. 7. The truck suffered damaged and the driver sustained minor injuries. The driver, a 54-year-old man from Kentucky, was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
- Officers assisted firefighters, who responded to three powerline/transformer fires on Aug. 7.
- The fire and police departments, as well as NYU Ambulance, responded to a home for a smoke condition on Aug. 8. Upon investigation, firefighters determined the condition was a result of power being restored to the residence.
- A package was reported stolen from in front of a Wellington Road residence on Aug. 9.
- Officers investigated a report of a subject rummaging through a car on Oxford Boulevard and checking car door handles on Kensington Road on Aug. 9. There is no loss reported at this time.
- A bicycle was reported stolen from the driveway of a Willow Street home on Aug. 10.
- The department is investigating a report of a truck leaving the scene after striking and damaging the portico of a Franklin Avenue apartment complex on Aug. 10.
- Firefighters and police officers responded to Chestnut Street for a gas leak caused by a contractor digging in the area on Aug. 10. National Grid was notified and responded to the scene.
- A 24-year-old driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended license and excessive speed on Aug. 10.
- A person’s identity was stolen to open a fraudulent credit card account and make unauthorized purchases at a Westbury store on Aug. 10.
- Two lawn lights were damaged at a Meadow Street home on Aug. 11.
- A wreath was reported stolen from a Garden Street home on Aug. 11.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a report of sparking wires in the basement of a Franklin Avenue restaurant on Aug. 11.
- A 19-year-old driver was charged with several aggressive driving violations on Old Country Road on Aug. 11, including unsafe start, excessive speed, unsafe lane changing and failure to signal.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Clinton Road on Aug. 11, officers arrested a 66-year-old man from Rockville Centre for driving with a revoked license due to a prior DWI, driving with a court ordered interlock device, unsafe speed, unsafe lane usage, a Nassau County warrant for assault and a Mineola alcohol possession warrant.
