Garden City Residents Approve School Budget

Garden City residents headed to the polls Tuesday to vote on a school budget and elect board members.

Voters in the Garden City School District went to the polls Tuesday and approved the school budget.

The $112.7 million budget is a 1.65 percent increase over the current year's spending plan of $110.8 million. Voters approved the budget 1,129 to 238. To finance the budget, the tax levy is increasing by 1.35 percent, which is the maximum allowed under the district's tax levy cap.

Residents also were able to vote for ballot Proposition 2, which would allow the district to spend $5.9 million from the Capital Reserve Fund to pay for projects throughout the district. It passed, 1,199 to 163.

Voters also cast their ballots for Board of Education Trustees. Angela Heineman was running unopposed and received 1,145 votes.
