Garden City Supports the Stevens Family

Garage sale/fundraiser raises more than $4,200.

Thanks to the tremendous support of the community, more than $4,200 was raised by the garage sale/fundraiser for Jessica Stevens, who is suffering from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD).

Many residents sent Jessica their well wishes as they shopped the finds at the garage sale.

"I read about Jessica's illness and I wanted to support her, it's a good cause," said Garden City resident Steve Ilardi, who was shopping with his sons.

The garage sale would not have been possible without helping hands from the community. Garden City Middle School students Jillian Gregory, Emma Gallagher and Danielle Ventre arrived early Friday morning to help set up the sale. Angel D'Antonio patiently tagged items as donations continued to trickle in all day. Adele Imbrenda, a neighbor of the Stevenses, worked tirelessly pricing and tagging items as well.

Jillian Marino, Christina Marino, Marci Imbrenda and Christina Tangle came to support the Stevens family, their neighbors.

"We raised over $4,200," shared Gisella Stober, who ran the sale at her home. "I am so pleased. I want to thank everyone who came and especially those people who helped make this such a success. Please keep Jessica in your prayers."

Jessica's sister, Katherine, and her Dad, David, were on hand all day and pitched in helping out with the sale. Hundreds of items were sold from toys, games, housewares, sporting equipment and more. All of the items were donated by community members.

Reigning over the sale was a sign made by Louis and Amanda Stober which read:  "Hope For Jessica." A perfect sentiment for a day filled with hope and optimism.

"The outpouring of love and donations was typical of Garden City," said David Stevens. "I've lived here all my life and this is a village that rallies around those in need. I would especially like to thank Gisella and Louis Stober, along with their children, Amanda and Louis, for giving up their home for two days for the sale. I would also like to extend my appreciation to my neighbors, Adele Imbrenda and Angel D'Antonio, who worked all day long. Many thanks also goes to Tracy Jordan of You're Invited! Estate Sales for all of her donations."

Nearly 2,000 miles away in Monterrey, Mexico, where Jessica is receiving treatment, she and her mom, Sarah Gina, also expressed their gratitude. Sara Gina advised that Jessica has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity and kindness that has been afforded them.

Anyone interested in making a donation should contact Gisella Stober at lstoberesq@aol.com or donations can be dropped off at 10 St. Pauls Crescent, Garden City. Checks should be made out to: Jessica's Journey Savings Fund.
