GC Boys Soccer Back on Track
The Trojans defeated Great Neck North 1-0 in a rain dampened match.
Garden City was coming off a tough home loss to South Side and looked to get back on track against a Great Neck North team that was looking for its first win of the young season. In a hard fought battle the Trojans came out on top as Mark Luglio converted on a free kick from about 25 yards out. Luglio’s shot deflected off the GNN wall and out of the reach of the keeper for the 1-0 lead at about the15 minute mark of the first half.
The game was played in a light rain that made it difficult for both teams to control the ball cleanly. The Garden City defense in front of keeper John Mackey made sure that North didn’t get any direct looks at the goal. And when they did get a shot off, Mackey came up big with five saves to secure the win. Garden City remains in second place with a 4-1-1 Conference record.
