Garden City residents were treated to an exciting time Saturday with the ninth annual outdoor “Spirit Day” at St. Anne’s Church.
More than 1,000 people enjoyed the nine-hour event that included an outdoor Mass, carnival games, raffles, inflatable rides, food, shopping and in the evening a Night at the Races and dancing in the Teen Night Club held inside the church's lower level.
“This was an event founded to celebrate the unity and faith of the people of Saint Anne’s parish. It is a day made successful through the cooperative effort of many dedicated volunteers coordinated by Sue and Bobby Crinnion,” stated Susanne Blum, program administrator at St. Anne’s. Many ministries contributed to the event, including the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters, altar servers, the Youth Group and the St. Anne’s moms.

Monsignor Thomas Harold, the new pastor of St. Anne’s, as well as Father Rudy, Deacon Basil Bliss, Deacon George Browne and Deacon John Sureau celebrated the outdoor Mass.
As the JSB Band played, 25 vendors sold a range of products. One unique food vendor was Snack, Crackle and CocoPop that drew attendees with its fun cooking process and light taste similar to rice cakes. Tracy Steck’s assistant, Joe remarked, “I call them ‘Crack Pops’ because they’re addictive!”

Another vendor was Cat’s Meow with Cathy Buckley. She showed unusual jewelry she designed from vintage materials, beads and Swarovski crystals. “I ‘up-cycle,’” Buckley explained, “because the materials are better than before” with her unique and funky combinations for bracelets and necklaces.
Noreen Culhane was very glad to be at the church Saturday since she won the Big Bucks Raffle Grand Prize of $18,000. Five additional people won $3,700 each.
