Girl Scouts of Nassau County Return Back to Troops
Girl Scouts Makes it Easier and More Impactful to Ignite the Power of Every Girl
With Additional STEM and Outdoor Content for Girls, Available to Troop Leaders via a “Digital Assistant,” Girl Scouts Makes it Easier and More Impactful to Ignite the Power of Every Girl
Garden City, NY (September 29, 2017) – Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) recently kicked-off its “Back to Troop” season with even more events and programs designed to develop essential life skills and leadership qualities for girls 5 to 17 years of age to unleash their inner G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader)™. With the introduction of 23 new badges, which marks the largest programming roll-out in almost a decade, Girl Scouts can design robots and race cars, go on environmentally conscious camping trips, write code, collect data in the great outdoors, try their hand at engineering, and so much more.
“This year, there is a lot to be excited about, including new and returning traditions,” said Deborah Goldsmith, Chief Operating Officer, GSNC. “We cannot wait to welcome members, both new and old, back into our empowering community. Our girl-led, collaborative, and hands-on experiences not only continue to provide fun and knowledgeable opportunities for our girls, but they also build confidence, leadership abilities, and assurance of the future. They help us to continuously create new and powerful generations of girls—our most important priority.”

In addition to building confidence, Girl Scouts are also more likely to seek out and solve challenges on their own, feel self-assured, display positive values and learn how to make and maintain healthy relationships.
Girls can join a Troop based on geographic location and grade level. The levels are as follows: Daisies, kindergarten and first grade; Brownies, second and third grade; Juniors, fourth and fifth grades; Cadettes, sixth through eighth grades; Seniors, ninth and tenth grade; and Ambassadors, eleventh and twelfth grades. If a troop is not available in your community, girls may still join GSNC by registering and taking advantage of Council-wide offerings and other opportunities.

We’re the Girl Scouts of Nassau County: We’re 23, 000 strong – 18,000 girls and 5,000 adults who believe in the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ from Nassau County to change the world. Our extraordinary journey began more than 100 years ago with the original G.I.R.L., Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. On March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, she organized the very first Girl Scout Troop, and every year since, we’ve honored her vision and legacy, building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. We’re the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. And with programs in Nassau County, across Long Island and throughout the United States and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success.

With the program, kids learned how to make bread from scratch and shared what they made with the community by giving part of their baked goods to those in need.
