HEMPSTEAD, NY — Police said a hit-and-run driver in a fatal crash was arrested Sunday night after he was followed by a good Samaritan who reported him to officers.

Erick Argueta, 30, of Mason Street, Hempstead, was driving a 2005 Acura MDX on Jerusalem Avenue near Spencer Place in Hempstead at 10:22 p.m. when he hit a 63-year-old man who was crossing the stree, police said. Argueta did not stop and drove off, police said.

Another driver saw what happened and made a U-turn and began to follow Argueta, police said. The witness flagged down a Nassau County police officer and shared what he saw. The officer caught up with Argueta over and pulled him over. He was placed under arrest without incident.
