GSNC and Hofstra's 8th Annual STEM Conference – Imagine your Possibilities

Girl Scouts of Nassau County and Hofstra University are hosting their 8th Annual “Imagine your Possibilities” STEM Conference today. This one-day conference will give girls in Long Island an opportunity to explore the world of science and have the chance to meet women in across STEM fields.

As part of this conference, girls from 4th through 8th grade, will have the opportunity to interact with women who hold leadership positions in a wide range of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. The event will also include a series of hands-on workshops to give girls a chance to experience STEM in action. Each girl will choose two workshop sessions. Sessions include: “Sensation vs. Perception,” “Wind Energy is a Breeze,” “Civil Engineers: Shaping the World we Live in,” “Personalized Medicine,” “Thinking About the Importance of Healthy Food Webs,” “Safe Eclipse Viewing,” “Every Contact Leaves a Trace,” and “Solving Crimes with DNA Evidence.”

This conference will culminate with keynote speaker Lisa Napolione, Senior Vice President, Global
Research and Development for The Estée Lauder Companies, a leading employer on Long Island, talking about her STEM career path, followed by a hands-on lip gloss formulation workshop.
This annual event is aimed at increasing girls’ involvement in STEM and ensuring that every girl canexplore and build interest in STEM.
