Harriers Impress at Bucknell Bison Classic; Eickelberg and Coiro Break School Records

Bucknell, PA – The men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Bucknell Bison Classic this weekend. A handful of personal bests, three NCAA qualifying marks and two school records highlighted the two-day meet which featured teams from all three NCAA Divisions.
On the distance side of things, Jacqueline Kaste and Andrew Coelho each registered NCAA provisional marks in the 10k. Kaste led a slew of Panthers through the 6.2 mile trek in a personal best of 36:42 which is three seconds faster than the provisional standard. Teammates Jennifer McNally (40:06), Katie Hundertmark (42:02) and Stefphanie Filippazzo (42:40) all checked in with personal bests.
Coelho, in his first attempt at the distance this season, broke the tape in 30:42, a season best and 10 seconds faster than the provisional standard. Gregory Bader also fared well with a time of 31:58 while Matthew Moody (32:10) and Justin Nakrin (33:50) each posted personal bests. Moody's time also qualified him for the USATF Junior National meet. Connor Dolan's time of 32:29 was a season best.
Elizabeth Eickelberg's time of 17:28 in the 5,000m run smashes her previous personal best and breaks her existing school record by 13 seconds. Her time is also second fastest in the Northeast-10 so far this year. Larissa Melendez also performed well with a 15 second personal best as she turned in a time of 18:28.
The lone male runner in the 5k field was James Panetta. In his first collegiate outdoor race, the sophomore turned in a time of 15:13.
Kristina Coiro continued her impressive rookie campaign with two personal bests and the women's second NCAA provisional mark. She turned in the fastest time on the team so far this year with a mark of 4:40.44 over 1500m, and then clocked in at 2:12.78 in the 800m run for another personal best and an NCAA provisional mark. It also broke the school record by 1.69 seconds.
On the men's side Jacob Moore and David DeSalvo turned in times of 4:13.49 and 4:19.33 respectively in the 1500m run. The Panthers put four runners under the two minute barrier in the 800m led by William Marois (1:57.27) and Chris Reilly (1:57.45). Jacob Moore (1:58.91) and Daniel Morley (1:59.40) were the final two to dip under two minutes.
In the sprints, Cassandra Jean posted two personal bests. She stopped the clock at 12.47 in the 100m dash and then broke the tape in 25.44 in the 200m. Meanwhile, Kristina Romano shaved .42 seconds off of her personal best in the 100H after breaking the tape in 15.57.
David Lewis and Marc Butterman were just a couple of tenths apart in the 400m dash with Lewis edging Butterman, 50.31 to 50.52. Meanwhile, Rosie Vassilatos raced to a 1:05.38 in the 400H while John Wood clocked in at 56.14 in the same event.
The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, April 20 when they head back to Princeton University to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational.
