Hempstead Woman Assaults Officer While Resisting Arrest: Police

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A woman from Hempstead was arrested and charged with assault for getting violence with a police officer, authorities said.

Oriana Bush, 23, was on East Meadow Avenue when the black Mercedes she was driving failed to signal when making a turn on Wednesday just after 11:30 p.m., police said.

An investigation revealed that the registration came back to a different vehicle and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, police said.

The driver refused to stop. Detectives responded to the residence and attempted to place Bush under arrest, police said.

Detectives sustained injuries while taking her into custody as she got violent resisting arrest, authorities said.

Bush is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

She was expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
