High School Lacrosse Player Receives Prestigious Award

The seventh annual James C. Metzger Outstanding Player Award for a boys’ lacrosse player at Half Hollow Hills East High School in Dix Hills recently was presented to senior attackman Sean Lulley.

Metzger is the founder and CEO of Garden City’s The Whitmore Group, a leading insurance services and estate planning company in the New York metropolitan area. He was an outstanding player during the 1970s at Half Hollow Hills East and is a leading benefactor.

During his high school lacrosse career, Lulley netted 50 goals and gathered 41 assists as a four-year varsity starter. He served as team captain and was named most valuable player during his senior year. Lulley was named All-County during his sophomore year. Injured midway through his junior year, Lulley returned mentally and physically prepared for his final season. He will attend the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania this fall.

Metzger set assist records (82 in one season) and won many awards during his high school playing days, including All-American honors and the 1977 Ray Enners Award for outstanding Suffolk County lacrosse player when he scored 102 points.
