Home Broken Into And Burglarized: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 15.

  • Officers investigated a report of theft of credit cards and other items from a vehicle parked in a Boylston Street Driveway on April 8. The incident is apparently related to a report of a man, wearing a hoodie and face mask, checking car door handles in the area.
  • Officers responded to Chestnut Street on April 9 where strong wind and heavy rain caused a large tree limb to fall onto the roadway. Officers safeguarded the area until the Parks Department responded and removed the tree limb.
  • As a result of strong wind on April 9, building materials fell from the roof of a Franklin Avenue building. Officers safeguarded the area until workers corrected the condition. The Building Department is investigating.
  • As a result of strong wind on April 9, a detour sign blew off a pole and struck and damaged a vehicle traveling on Railroad Avenue. No injuries were reported. The Department of Public Works was notified.
  • Officers responded to the north side of the Garden City Railroad Station on April 10 where a large tree limb fell. Officers safeguarded the area until the limb was removed by the Parks Department.
  • Firefighters and officers responded to a residential fire alarm set off by burnt food on April 10.
  • On April 11, officers began investigating a report of a burglary of a vacant house on 10th Street. The incident occurred during the past three weeks. Entry was apparently made through the garage where an interior door leading into the residence was found damaged. Possible items stolen include costume jewelry. Suspect may be known to the owners. Officers recovered evidence at the scene and turned it over to Nassau County detectives.
  • Officers responded to traffic light malfunctions on Franklin Avenue at 6th Street, as well as at 1st Street and Cathedral Avenue, on April 11.
  • Officers assisted the fire department, which responded to the Garden City Hotel for a fire alarm and a Huntington Road residence for a carbon monoxide alarm, on April 12. Upon investigation, all appeared to be in order at both locations.
  • Officers assisted firefighters, who responded to a report of a fire inside the Nassau County Court House, on April 13. Upon investigation, it was determined to be a minor electrical outlet fire.
  • As a result of strong winds on April 13, officers responded to numerous reports of fallen tree limbs throughout the village, as well as wires down on Meadow Street and sparking wires on Stewart Avenue.
  • Officers investigated a report of suspicious text messages sent to a Garden City youth on April 14.
  • During an investigation of several youths fighting on Cambridge Avenue on April 15, officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Garden City for possession of a forged driver’s license.
  • During the past week, officers responded to numerous COVID-19 related incidents including social distancing complaints. The police department reminds everyone social distancing is required as per New State Executive Law.
