Homeless Teen Charged With Multiple Burglaries in Nassau

BREAKING: Police say he had been breaking into homes in Garden City for the last month.

A homeless teen is being charged for a string of burglaries that took place in Garden City and Hempstead in the last month.

According to detectives, on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., Garden City police officers responded to an alarm on St. James St. South after being advised by a witness that a man was on the roof of a home and then fled the scene. Police officers located Dimas Yanez, 18, no known address, in the area a short time later. He is being charged with second degree burglary (attempt).

According to police, a subsequent investigation by detectives revealed that Yanez was responsible for the following additional burglaries:

  • Sept. 8 -- 3rd Street, Garden City
  • Sept. 10 -- St. James St. S., Garden City
  • Sept. 10 -- Cathedral Ave., Hempstead
  • Oct. 8 -- 3rd Street, Garden City
  • Oct. 8 -- 3rd Street, Garden City

Yanez is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
