Honoring His Greek Heritage, NBA All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo to Host Basketball Clinic at Adelphi University on June 4

Event to feature a line-up of current and former basketball stars from Greece

NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo (“The Greek Freak”) will host a basketball clinic for kids at Adelphi University in Garden City on Sunday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. The event is organized by Hellenic Public Radio Cosmos FM 91.5, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The event will feature a line-up of former and current basketball stars from Greece and enable them to interact with young Greek Americans in a combined effort to raise awareness of Hellenic values.

Antetokounmpo, the versatile 22-year-old forward-guard broke out this year in his fourth NBA season, averaging 22.9 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game. He was selected to his first-ever NBA All Star Game as he blossomed into an all-round superstar by leading the Bucks in all five major statistical categories. He also became the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 in total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He has even drawn comparisons from basketball insiders to the game's elite stars. Born to Nigerian parents who emigrated to Greece, he obtained Greek citizenship in 2013.

The festivities will conclude that evening with an Awards Gala in the evening at 7:00 p.m. at Terrace on the Park in Queens, where Antetokounmpo’s parents, Charles and Veronica, will be honored. The couple will receive the award for raising their four children with Hellenic values, ideals, and standards. In addition, other awards will be presented to the rest of the special guests, representing the past, present, and future of Greek Basketball for their immense contribution to Hellenism and sports. Emmy-award winning FOX 5 News anchor Ernie Anastos will emcee the gala event.
