The 25th annual golf classic to support the Long Island region of the American Heart Association recently honored business executive James C. Metzger. He is CEO and founder of The Whitmore Group, a leading insurance services and estate planning company in the New York metropolitan area that is headquartered in Garden City.
The annual outing and fundraiser also is a tribute to Joel Hamroff, a past honoree, board member and president of the American Heart Association on Long Island. Hamroff passed away from heart disease 15 years ago, and a connection between his son, Marc, and Metzger brought the two together to raise the highest amount of money for any single golf outing for the organization.
“Marc shared with me that he and his dad were best friends and that his father was a significant influence in his life,” said Metzger. “This is very comparable to the relationship I have enjoyed all my life with my father.”
Hamroff is an attorney with Moritt Hock & Hamroff of Garden City. He and Metzger have known each other for years as Hofstra University alumni. They support Hofstra education and sports, and they have been involved in many community events.
“I thank the volunteer committee for all their work,” added Metzger, "and I appreciate the support from the Long Island business community. The AHA is a great organization and together we achieved tremendous success during difficult economic times.”
