2013 All Met Division II Women's Basketball Release
New York, N.Y. - Adelphi University women's basketball junior Jessica Kitrys was named to the 2013 All Met Division II Women's Basketball First Team, it was announced on Wednesday by the Met Basketball Writers Association. The honor marks the first Adelphi player to make the All Met First Team since Gianna Smith in 2008.
A 2013 Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team selection, Kitrys led the Panthers and was second in the NE-10 with 17.2 points per game. She paced the Panthers with 7.2 rebounds per game and a .505 field goal percentage, posting five double-doubles, eight games with 20-plus points and two games with 30-plus points. She surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Feb. 10 with a career-high 36-point performance that tied Adelphi's single-game scoring record.
Kitrys helped Adelphi to the highest amount of wins the program has seen since the 2006-07 season and the squad's first NE-10 Tournament win since joining the conference in 2009-10.
Danielle Wilson of Dowling was named the All Met Player of the Year and Dowling's Joe Pellicane took home Coach of the Year honors.
A 6-foot-3 senior forward from Bay Shore, N.Y., Wilson averaged a double double on the season with 17.2 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per game (No. 12 in the nation) for the NCAA Division II runnerup Golden Lions. She led the East Coast Conference and was sixth nationally in field goal percentage (56.8 percent), while ranking in the top 10 in the nation in blocks per game (2.97) and double doubles (20). Wilson also was named ECC Player of the Year.
Pellicane guided the Golden Lions (30-4) to the NCAA Division II Final Four, defeating Augustana, SD, in the semifinals before losing to Ashland, OH, in the championship game. Winning its second straight ECC regular season and postseason titles, Dowling was No. 1 in the nation in defense/opponents points per game.
The All Met teams will be honored April 15 at the 80th NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
