LI Home Health Aide Charged In Elderly Man's Death: Police
Police say the woman charged with taking care of the man was responsible for his death.

GARDEN CITY, NY — A home healthcare aide was arrested and charged with killing the elderly man she was supposed to care for, Nassau County police said.
According to police, Garden City police officers responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. Monday for an unconscious man at a home on Monroe Street in Garden City. When they arrived, they saw that the 83-year-old man had a cut on his head. The man was pronounced dead a few minutes later by paramedics. Police did not release the man's name.
Police say that Garden City and Nassau County police officers started investigating. Later that night, police arrested Gail Godwin, 63, of Bay Shore, in connection with the man's death. Godwin is a home health aide. Police did not say what led to them arresting Godwin, or what her connection to the man's death was.

Godwin is charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person. She is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
