GARDEN CITY, NY —Several who served in Southeast Asia during the conflict gathered in Garden City On Wednesday for the annual National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

March 29 was set aside in 2017 for the nation to honor and thank veterans of the Vietnam War.

While the day is recognized as a national observance, it is not an official holiday anywhere in the U.S.

March 29 was selected to remember the troops as it was that date in 1973 when the U.S. Military Assistance Command was disestablished. It was the same day that the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam.
