LIPA Work May Cause Traffic Changes In Garden City
The utility is doing work for an underground transmission line, which may cause some traffic problems in the village.

Construction work for a new LIPA transmission line is going to impact travel in the village starting this week.
The work is part of the Western Nassau Transmission Project, which will run a new 138 kilovolt line underground for about seven miles between a Uniondale substation and the Lynbrook substation.
The construction is estimated to take about two weeks. Here's the schedule that will impact Garden City:

- Splice vault No. 18 began on Feb. 18 on 9th Street, between Cherry Valley Avenue and Hilton Avenue.
- Splice vault No. 15 began on Feb. 19 on Westminster Road, south of the intersection with First Street in West Hempstead
- Trenching on Rockaway Avenue, between 3rd Street and the LIRR bridge, began on Feb. 19. Trenching is primarily occurring in the northbound lane. Single lane closures should be expected during this work.
- Preparation of the green “mall area” between the travel lanes of Stewart Avenue to allow for pipe fusing continues this week. No impact to traffic is expected.
- Test hole digging will continue in the areas of Cherry Valley Avenue, from 6th Street to Cathedral Avenue
