LIRR Construction In Garden City Continues Into March
The biggest change residents will see is the closure of New Hyde Park Road, which will remain closed until Labor Day.
As the weather warms, there is going to be a flurry of construction activity around Garden City and the railroad tracks.
The LIRR is picking up its construction work around the village, which will cause delays and detours on some roads. There will be work going on both during the day and at night in certain locations.
The biggest change for residents will be the New Hyde Park Road grade crossing elimination project. Due to the work, New Hyde Park Road is closed from Plaza Avenue to 4th Avenue until Labor Day.

Nighttime work will be done along the tracks to elevate them to meet the new height of the Nassau Boulevard Bridge. LIRR work trains will be delivering supplies to the area, and crews will be working through the night and on weekends. During the work, there will be lights and flag personnel in the area to protect the crews.
Work is also continuing to enhance the Merillon Avenue station. The western halves of the north and south platforms have been rebuilt and are currently open, and temporary platforms have been installed to accommodate trains.

Works continues on the rest of the platform, which is being extended to soon accommodate 12-car trains. Crews may be working on the platform on the weekends throughout March.
While the work is ongoing, some parking spots at the station will continue to be unavailable.
Work is also continuing on retaining and sound-blocking walls being built along the tracks throughout Garden City. Contractors are working on the north and south sides of the tracks from Nassau Boulevard to Herricks Road.
