Long Island Gang Leader Sentenced For Shooting Rivals

Police say he helped murder a rival gang member, and also shot into a home where rival gang members were gathered.

A Long Island gang leader was sentenced today for his role in shooting rival gang members, as well as other crimes.

Alton Gore, 27, of Hempstead, also known as A-Murder, the leader of the Outlaws street gang, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a federal judge. In April, he had pleaded guilty to assault in aid of racketeering and discharging a firearm in connection with a crime of violence.

“Gore earned today’s sentence by blindly shooting into a house, permanently disabling one man and injuring another,” stated United States Attorney Richard Donoghue. “Violence in the name of a street gang jeopardizes the safety of the entire community and will not be tolerated. We will continue working tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to rid Long Island of the Outlaws and every other street gang.”

On Sept. 11, 2013, fellow Outlaws member Pedro Merchant shot and killed 17-year-old Dante Quinones in Hempstead over gang allegiances. After the murder, Gore led a year-long gang war between the Outlaws and the Bloods, which included multiple shootings.

On Sept. 14, 2014, Gore and two other Outlaws gang members staked out a house in Hempstead where Bloods members were watching a boxing match. Gore and his accomplices opened fire into the house, hitting one gang member in the leg and a second in the head, causing him to lose an eye.

Gore and Merchant pleaded guilty to the charges against them in April. Merchant was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

“Violent street gangs endanger public safety and paralyze communities through fear and intimidation,” stated FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney. “Gore showed a flagrant disregard for the safety of others in opening fire on that home – two rival gang members were shot, one gravely injured, and his reckless actions could have endangered the lives of many others."
