Long Island Nets Holding First-Ever Women's Empowerment Game

The game will be preceded by a panel discussion with women in business and politics.

The Long Island Nets will host their Women’s Empowerment Day Game versus the Windy City Bulls on Sunday, March 4 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The 3 p.m. tip off will be preceded by a “women in business” panel at 1 p.m. leading into an industry networking event at 2 p.m.

The panel will be moderated by Nina Van Erk, former executive director of Section 8 Athletics and will include community leader Laura Schaefer, who serves as a Nassau Country legislator, and Allison Feaster, former WNBA player and player personnel and coach relations lead at the NBA G League. Joining Schaefer and Feaster on the panel will also be Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment executives Eu-Gene Sung, the CFO, and Mandy Gutmann, VP of communications.

Ticket prices for the pregame panel and networking event begin at $25, providing access to the panel as well as a ticket for the game in the lower level. The $50 ticket includes admission to the game in the lower level, access to the speaking panel and admission to the VIP Lounge throughout the game.

First elected to the Nassau County Legislature in 2013, Schaefer has assumed several committee leadership roles in the areas of development and the environment, intergovernmental communications, governmental operations, public health and social services. She has made her mark in the community, earning such titles as the “Community Achievement Award” given to her by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, she has introduced legislation to amend Nassau County's Social Host Law by adding opioids, marijuana and other drugs in an effort to help fight the drug abuse and addiction problems of young people in Nassau County.

Feaster was a professional basketball player for nine years, playing for the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, Charlotte Sting and Indiana Fever throughout her career. In her position with the NBA G League, Feaster’s responsibilities include traveling to the league’s 26 markets to meet with players and coaches in an effort to enhance their on- and off-court experiences. Additionally, she is involved in the league’s continued domestic and international expansion efforts.
