Lord & Taylor Hosts ‘Oh My Prom’ Red Carpet Fashion Show

High school students strut the runway and say "yes" to the dress.

Local high school students walked the runway at Lord & Taylor’s annual “Oh My Prom” event April 9.

The Garden City store reaches out every year to students to model the season’s current prom styles. With an expanded dress department, Lord & Taylor is on the pulse of the prom season’s latest trends.

“This is such a great prom season,” said Inna Leipzig, divisional vice president/divisional merchandise manager. “From cut-outs, high-low hems to romantic looks we have dresses for every girl’s style.”

Catering to individual looks is reflected in Lord & Taylor’s selection. To help identify the perfect look for prom goers, the store has been conducting an online quiz. Leipzig advised that looks for this season can be categorized in four distinct categories: daring diva, trendsetter, glamour girl and romantic.

Daring diva is for the girl who wants to stand out in bright prints, cut-outs and sequins. Divas are choosing bright fuchsias, oranges and bold prints. Trendsetters are not suffering from fashion fear and include the rocker girl who seeks to make a statement by opting for shorter styles. Glamour girl is all about Hollywood with dresses that sparkle with sophistication. This is where the traditional ball gown comes in. Romantic styles feature frills, lace, neutrals and a mix of vintage elements.

No matter what your style, shopping for the perfect dress can be daunting. Lord & Taylor’s personal fashion advisor, Allison Becker, can help with the shopping blues. Becker’s mission is to scout out the best looks for shoppers. The service is complimentary and appointments are necessary.

Becker is proud of this prom season’s selection.

“This is my third year at Lord & Taylor and the most exciting,” said Becker. “Our dress department is filled with different looks. Some of my favorites are the brights, prints and off-the-shoulder looks. Our associates are here to help and make every girl’s dream come true.”

Judging by the enthusiasm of the models and audience during the runway show, all of the dresses were a hit with selections running the gamut from short and sassy to elegant and sophisticated.

“We truly offer something for everyone from style to size selection,” advised Ruchika Oberoi, Lord & Taylor’s assistant general manager. “We’ve received very positive feedback from our shoppers regarding our prom selection.”

Friends Abby Eschmann and Molly McDonough, seniors at Sacred Heart Academy, had a blast modeling in the show. Eschmann wore a cocktail length navy blue dress accented with rhinestones while McDonough modeled a more traditional gown with an edgy blue and black print.

For the real day, Garden City resident Eschmann chose a more traditional look which she felt would fit in the glamour category.

“We had so much fun modeling and I did happen to purchase my dress at Lord & Taylor,” said Eschmann. “There were a lot of choices and variety to choose from.”

Regardless of the style one thing is for sure as Leipzig stated, “Glamour is back and prom goers are looking for that wow factor and statement piece.”
