Man Arrested for Driving With 18 License Suspensions: GC Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending June 24.
- A resident reported someone cashed a fraudulent check for $2,000 against his bank account on June 18.
- Officers investigated a report of broken windows at the Garden City High School on June 18. Upon investigation, it was determined that landscapers apparently caused the damage.
- Officers were assigned to traffic safety details for a protest rally and march on South Drive, Washington Avenue, Old Country Road, Franklin Avenue and 11th Street on June 19.
- On June 19, a resident received an email from someone claiming to be an acquaintance asking her to purchase $500 in gift cards to assist in a fundraiser and forward the pin numbers back to the same email. The victim complied, however, later determined the email was a scam.
- Officers assisted the fire department, which responded to Brompton Road for a natural gas odor, on June 19. Upon investigation, firefighters determined all was in order.
- On June 20, it was reported that someone used an unauthorized ATM card on several occasions to remove $4,000 from a resident's credit union account.
- Officers were assigned to traffic safety details for two separate demonstrations on Franklin Avenue on June 20.
- The police department received a report of a power outage on Pine Street on June 21. PSEG was notified to respond.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road on June 21, officers arrested a 26-year-old man from Garden City for driving a motorcycle with 18 license suspensions, as well as unregistered vehicle, uninspected vehicle and uninsured vehicle.
- Officers responded to CVS for a report of a subject fleeing the store after stealing multiple items on June 22. The subject, a 31-year-old man from Mineola, was apprehended on 9th Street and arrested for petty larceny and resisting arrest.
- On June 22, officers investigated two reports of identity theft where fraudulent credit card accounts were opened using residents’ personnel information.
- A pair of headphones was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Meadow Street driveway on June 22.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a carbon monoxide alarm activation on June 22. Upon investigation, it was determined the alarm was activated by maintenance workers updating the system.
- Officers monitored polling locations throughout the village on June 23.
- Officers were assigned traffic safety details for a march and rally at several locations between 6th Street and 11th Street on June 23.
- Firefighters responded to Oxford Boulevard for a report of sparking power lines on June 23.
- The Department investigated multiple reports of unknown person(s) filing for fraudulent unemployment claims using residents’ personnel information between June 17 and June 23.
