Man Arrested For Driving Stolen Car: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending July 1.

  • A Stewart Avenue resident reports the theft of two packages from his front porch on June 24.
  • Officers and firefighters responded to 7th Street for downed utility wires on June 24. The fire department secured the wires and notified the responsible utility company.
  • Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a protest march in the Central residential and business districts on June 25.
  • The Garden City Country Club reported youths trespassed on the golf course, turning over tables and littering, on June 26.
  • An officer responded to Nassau Boulevard and Somerset Avenue for a traffic light malfunction on June 27.
  • A rear window to a vehicle parked on Andover Court was found damaged on June 27.
  • On June 27, officers responded to a commercial building for a burglary alarm activation where they found an open door. Officers checked the interior of the building and all appeared to be in order.
  • A 23-year-old man from Brooklyn was stopped on Tanners Pond Road for passing a stop sign on June 28. Upon investigation, it was determined he was driving a Lexus reported stolen from Roslyn Heights on June 6. He was charged with criminal possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of an auto and unlicensed operation.
  • Officers notified PSEG to respond to Keenan Place for a power outage due to a blown transformer on June 28.
  • Officers responded to Franklin Avenue and 14th Street for a report of an accident between a vehicle and a female pedestrian on June 29. The pedestrian was transported to Winthrop Hospital for an arm injury.
  • An officer responded to Lefferts Road where a large tree branch had fallen onto the roadway on June 29.
  • On June 29, a resident reported two checks, mailed from an East Garden City mailbox, were intercepted, altered to a higher amount, and cashed by an unknown person.
  • A rear window to a vehicle parked on Brixton Road was found shattered by unknown means on June 29.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road on June 29, officers charged a 23-year-old motorist with driving with a suspended license, excessive speed and unlicensed operation.
  • Officers responded to Edgemere Park on June 30 for a report of a strong odor of natural gas. Upon investigation, it was determined the odor was a result of National Grid cleaning gas lines in the area.
  • Officers assisted the fire department, which responded to a power line fire on Laurel Street on June 30.
  • Officers assisted the fire department, which responded to a Franklin Avenue restaurant for a small fire and smoke condition in the kitchen on July 1. Firefighters extinguished the fire and safeguarded the building.
  • A 19-year-old driver was charged with excessive speed (80 MPH) on Stewart Avenue on July 1.
