Man Arrested For Yelling Obscenities At Children: Garden City PD

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 6.

Sept. 30

  • A driver said he was driving on Washington Avenue when a large tree branch fell and damaged his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
  • Two drivers were cited on Rockaway Avenue for excessive speed in school zones and driving with suspended licenses.

  • A Brooklyn company was cited for the operation of a truck on New Hyde Park Road while 27,000 pounds overweight.
  • The police department investigated a report of numerous fraudulent transactions against a resident’s bank account totaling $25,000.

Oct. 2

  • A van was reported stolen from a Franklin Court driveway on Oct. 1. A stolen vehicle notification was sent to neighboring jurisdictions and on Oct. 2, a Nassau County police officer located the vehicle and arrested a 19-year-old man from Hicksville for possession of stolen property. Upon further investigation by Garden City detectives, the man was also charged with the theft of property from a vehicle parked on Meadow Street on Oct. 1.

  • Upon investigation of a suspicious person, officers arrested a 55-year-old man from Freeport for the theft of property from a vehicle parked on Sunset Lane. Upon further investigation, the man was also charged with the theft of a bike from a nearby West Hempstead home and criminal trespassing.
  • A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed. Another driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation, unregistered vehicle, switched license plates, uninsured auto and excessive speed.
  • Officers responded to 7th Street for a report of a man yelling vulgarities and harassing pedestrians, including children, as well as threatening to harm a civilian police aide who attempted to intercede. The 70-year-old male from Garden City was arrested for harassment.

Oct. 5

  • Officers received a report of a man fleeing CVS after stealing numerous items from the store. Officers located the man, a 56-year-old from Uniondale, on 7th Street. He was arrested and charged with petty larceny.
  • Officers investigated a report of a red landscaping truck leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle stopped for a red traffic light on 11th Street. There were no reported injuries.
  • A resident reported his personal information was used to open an unauthorized bank account and file a fraudulent unemployment claim.
  • Detectives are investigating a report of several unauthorized transactions totaling $25,000 against a person’s bank account.

Oct. 6

  • Two vehicles parked in the vicinity of Roderick Lane and Cherry Valley Avenue were entered during the overnight hours. There is no loss reported.
  • A package left by the garage of a Willow Street residence was reported stolen.
  • An 18-year-old driver was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speedmin the vicinity of Stewart Avenue and Tullamore Road.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle with New Jersey license plates leaving the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle on Stewart Avenue. There were no reported injuries.
