Man Fired Multiple Shots At Officers While Fleeing: Police
Police say the man jumped out of a car during a traffic stop and ran, firing at officers while he did so.

A Uniondale man was arrested early Sunday morning after police say he fired multiple shots at police officers while he was running away from them.
According to police, officers pulled over a 2015 black Nissan Altima on Lafayette Avenue in Hempstead around 12:45 a.m. after it didn't signal for a left turn. Police say that the passenger in the car, Duane Costa, 37, of Union Drive, adjusted a large object in his waistband. Police took him out of the car, and as he stepped out, police say he shoved an officer and fled on foot east on Midwood Street.
While he was running, police say Costa reached into his waistband and dropped a silver and black handgun. he then pulled a second gun out of his waistband, police say. He refused commands to drop the gun, and instead fired multiple rounds at officers as they were giving chase, according to police.

Police closed off the area, and with the help of the Hempstead Police Department, Costa was located and arrested. Both guns were recovered and no one was injured.
The Third Squad reports the arrest of a male from Uniondale for an incident that occurred on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 12:45 a.m. in Hempstead.

Costa is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, for counts of attempted aggravated assault, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and a vehicle and traffic law violation. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
