GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Jan. 19.

Jan. 13

  • Officers and firefighters responded to a smoke condition inside a Clinton Road building. The cause was determined to be burnt food.
  • Officers conducted a truck inspection on Clinton Road. Thirteen vehicles were inspected with three being placed out of service. Officers issued 45 tickets for various traffic and safety violations, including 18 overweight violations and one unsecured load violation. One driver was charged with driving with a suspended license.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue restaurant for a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Firefighters determined the cause to be a malfunctioning water heater. No injuries were reported.

  • A driver was cited for excessive speed on Clinton Road and driving with a suspended license.
  • As a result of an investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 63-year-old man for felony possession of an assault rifle and three counts of felony possession of high-capacity ammo clips.
  • Packages were reported stolen from the front porch of a Stratford Avenue residence.

Jan. 16

  • Officers investigated a report of someone filing for unemployment benefits using a victim’s personal information.

  • Upon investigation of a speeding auto on Old Country Road, Officers arrested a 21-year-old woman for DWI, driving with a suspended license due to a prior DWI, and excessive speed.

Jan. 18

  • Upon investigation of a vehicle crash on Edgemere Road, officers arrested a 29-year-old man for criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana.
  • The police department investigated a report of a broken side view mirror on a vehicle parked in a private Franklin Avenue parking lot.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a home for a fire alarm. The cause was determined to be a broken water pipe.

Jan. 19

  • Officers arrested a 20-year-old man for driving on Old Country Road with a suspended license due to a prior DWI arrest, four additional license suspensions, possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle and excessive speed.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road, a 44-year-old man was arrested for reckless driving, driving with a revoked license due to 30 license suspensions, possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle and excessive speed, as well as multiple aggressive driving violations.
  • A victim reported someone used his personal information to illegally file for unemployment benefits.
