Man Led Officers On Chase Through Village In Stolen Car: GCPD

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Dec. 15.
Dec. 9
- Garden City Police Department officers were notified, via dispatch, of the theft of a car that just occurred at Citibank, 250 Old Country Road in Mineola. An officer then saw the car heading southbound Rockaway Avenue at a high rate of speed. Another officer in the area attempted to stop the car, but the driver refused. The car continued to drive recklessly on several different streets in the village, committing numerous traffic violations, and refusing to stop for police. The car eventually left the village southbound on Nassau Boulevard. Upon further investigation, it was then determined that the car was stolen from a 62-year-old woman who was sitting in her car at Citi Bank in Mineola when a man entered the car, ordered her to get out, and then fled the scene.

- Upon investigation of a vehicle striking and severing an electric utility pole on Rockaway Avenue and Old Country Road, Officers arrested the 25-year-old driver for aggravated DWI.
- A resident reports a forged check for $9,700 was cashed against her bank account.
Dec. 11
- Packages were reported stolen from the front porch of a Stewart Avenue home. It was later determined the NCPD arrested the person responsible, a 38-year-old man, for similar thefts in the 3rd Precinct.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue restaurant for excess carbon monoxide in the basement. The area was rendered safe by firefighters.

- The Garden City Police Department and Nassau County Legislator Laura Schaefer conducted a drug take back event at Village Hall. Approximately 600 pounds of unwanted, unused and expired medications were collected. Mayor Theresa Trouvé and Trustee John Delaney were present during the event.
- Upon investigation of a Nov. 27 incident at Healthtrax where a credit card was stolen from a locker and later used to make unauthorized purchases, Garden City detectives arrested two subjects, a 50-year-old man and a 32-year-old man, for grand larceny. In addition, the 50-year-old man was charged with two counts of identity theft and two counts of possession of forged instruments.
- Officers responded to Lord & Taylor for a report of a woman who stole three designer coats valued at $2,200 from the store and fled the scene in a car being driven by a man. An officer stopped the car on Franklin Avenue and investigation arrested both subjects, a 31-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man, for grand larceny.
Dec. 13
- Detectives arrested a 25-year-old woman for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Clinton Road on Dec. 5.
Dec. 14
- Officers responded to County Seat Drive and Courthouse Road for a traffic light malfunction.
Dec. 15
- A purse was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a John Street driveway.
- A witness sa a black vehicle leave the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle parked in Field #5. A driver stated a white vehicle backed into her car in Nassau Parking Field # and left the scene without stopping.
