GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 9.

March 3

  • Damaged drywall was found in the roadway on Cathedral Avenue. The Department of Public Works responded and removed the debris.
  • Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on 11th Street, officers arrested a 24-year-old woman for DWI.
  • Two drivers were charged with driving on Clinton Road with suspended licenses and excessive speed.

  • A tire on a vehicle parked in Parking Field 6 was found punctured by unknown means.

March 5

  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Euston Road, a teen from Oceanside was arrested for reckless driving, criminal possession of marijuana, driving the wrong way on a one-way road, improper driving on a shoulder, passing a red light and tinted windows. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident after striking and damaging a light pole on Stewart Avenue at Nassau Boulevard.
  • Officers investigated a report of two men stealing computer monitors from the lobby of the Residence Inn.
  • A driver was arrested on Stewart Avenue for 17 license suspensions, excessive speed and uninsured vehicle.

March 6

  • A 24-year-old driver was arrested on Washington Avenue for driving with a suspended license, possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle and unsafe lane usage.
  • Graffiti was found on a Meadow Street utility box.
  • A 25-year-old driver was charged with excessive speed on Old Country Road, possession of a forged registration and unregistered vehicle.

March 7

  • Officers arrested a 33-year-old driver on Stewart Avenue for driving with a revoked license due to a prior DWI, four additional license suspensions, possession of a forged registration, criminal possession of a controlled substance (MDMA), possession of marijuana and suspended registration.
  • The fire department responded to a residence for a minor electrical fire. It was determined the cause was a faulty electrical outlet.
  • A 21-year-old driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a revoked license due to a prior DWI, a suspended license and defective headlights.

March 8

  • Fire fighters and police responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm, and upon testing carbon monoxide levels, deemed the area safe.
  • Fire fighters and police responded to a Franklin Avenue medical building for a carbon monoxide alarm, and upon testing carbon monoxide levels, deemed the area safe. It was determined the alarm activation was apparently caused by construction in the building.
  • Air Pods were reported stolen from a desk inside a Garden City Plaza Office.
  • Police are investigating a report of someone using another person’s identity to file an unauthorized tax return.
  • A business reports receiving a call from a person who stated they owed FedEx money for a past delivery. The company sent the money to the given address and later determined it to be a scam.
  • A resident saw a man in his Poplar Street driveway. When the homeowner opened his door, the subject fled the scene in a white SUV.
  • Upon investigation, a 24-year-old man was arrested on Old Country Road for criminal possession of a controlled substance (concentrated cannabis), criminal possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the road, unregistered vehicle and possession of a forged document.

March 9

  • Multiple computer and electronic items were reported stolen from trucks parked at a Herricks Road commercial work site.
  • Garden City Detectives arrested a 59-year-old man at a Franklin Avenue spa for attempting to perform a massage on a person while having a revoked permit to do so. He was charged with unauthorized practice of a profession. He was previously arrested by Garden City police on Aug. 29, 2020 for sexual abuse and forcible touching and on Jan. 6, 2021 for sexual abuse, forcible touching, reckless assault, and unauthorized practice of a profession.
  • As a result of a power outage, officers responded to Franklin Avenue and 2nd Street for a traffic light malfunction.
  • Upon investigation of a March 8 incident at a 2nd Street worksite, Garden City detectives arrested a 45-year-old man for kicking a ladder, resulting in a fellow worker to fall and sustain multiple injuries. The subject was charged with assault.
  • During the week, officers investigated three reports of victims’ identities being stolen and used to file false unemployment claims.
