Last performance of Mulan Jr. will be next Saturday, March 2, at 2pm. Don't miss this one! Casting is spot-on, and the performance is quite faithful to the film. The biggest difference lies in the portrayal of the ancestors. While the ancestors are ghost-like, scary creatures in the film, in the play they are represented by two authentically attired actors whose very presence on the stage underlines their omnipresence to traditional Chinese family members. Another difference is in the portrayal of Mushu. Mushu is a lovable mini dragon in the film. On the stage, Mushu is a zany elfin creature with swaths of curly red hair. She was my children's favorite character, hands down.
