Multiple Shows, Events At Nassau Coliseum Canceled

The governor's new restrictions on large gatherings has canceled events and concerts at the venue.

UNIONDALE, NY — As the coronavirus continues to spread across the area, Nassau Coliseum announced that multiple shows and events originally scheduled for the coming weeks have been cancelled.

Today, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that all events with more than 500 attendees would be cancelled. That affects every show at the Coliseum, managers said.

The following events are all cancelled or postponed:

  • Jurassic World scheduled from March 12 through 22, is cancelled. Customer tickets can be refunded at point-of-purchase. Customers who ordered tickets through ticketmaster.com will automatically receive a refund.
  • Michael Buble, scheduled for March 24, has been postponed. A new date will be announced shortly. All tickets to the March 24 concert will be valid for the new date.
  • The NHL has suspended all games until further notice.
  • The NBA G-League has suspended all games until further notice.
  • The National Lacrosse League has suspended all games until further notice.

The new occupancy ban takes effect 5 p.m. Friday and will be enforced by local authorities. The ban goes into effect at Broadway theaters at 5 p.m. Thursday. Businesses that violate the ban could face fines or given orders to shut down. The ban does not apply to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, government buildings and mass transit facilities.

Nassau County continues to have the highest number of cases on Long Island with 41. One of those patients is in serious condition and 10 people are currently hospitalized, county officials said at a news conference Thursday. One of the patients in Nassau County is an 81-year-old woman who was living at The Bristal at North Hills, an assisted living community. Officials said she is hospitalized and not the patient in critical condition.

At least 472 people were in mandatory or precautionary quarantine in Nassau County and at least 16 were in mandatory quarantine in Suffolk, which is up to 20 confirmed cases of the virus. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone declared a state of emergency in the county and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran declared the virus an imminent threat to public health. Both took the measure to help authorize more spending to combat the virus.
