Nassau Man Charged With String Of Larcenies: Police

Police say he broke into multiple homes, burgled them and stole cars, as well.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police arrested a Hempstead man early Friday morning who they say is responsible for multiple burglaries and robberies in the area.

According to police, officers arrested Jahkeem M. Jiles, 29, of Albemarle Avenue, Hempstead, at his home at 12:15 a.m. Friday. Police say he is responsible for multiple burglaries and robberies that happened between Aug. 8 and Sept. 24.

On Aug. 8 at 9:50 p.m., police say Jiles entered a home on Villa Court and stole about $700 worth of clothing and handbags.

Around 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 13, police say Jiles entered a home on Liberty Court and stole a wallet and car keys. Police say he used the keys to steal a 2013 Honda, which had various landscaping equipment in the back. The car was found the next day without the equipment. The equipment was valued at $2,600.

Around 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 29, police say Jiles was breaking into a home on Greenwich Street when the homeowner woke up and screamed. Police say Jiles fled the scene.

On Sept. 24 around 1 a.m., police say Jiles broke into a home on Villa Court and stole two car keys and another set of keys. The homeowner was awoken as Jiles left, police say, and began to follow him. Police say Jiles threatened the homeowner to stop following him, and he did.

Jiles is charged with four counts of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree robbery, one count of third-degree grand larceny and one count of petty larceny. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
