Nassau Man Chased Down Another, Shot Him: Police

Police say a month-long investigation led to the arrest of the shooter.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Hempstead man was arrested on Monday and charged in connection with a shooting that happened in the village in April which injured another man.

According to police, a 35-year-old man was being chased by Loren Lake, 34, of Hempstead, on Fulton Avenue at 11:40 a.m. on April 19. Police say the two men had previously had a disagreement. During the chase, police say Lake pulled out a handgun and shot the other man, striking him in the back.

The man continued to run away and flagged down a passing car for help. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his wounds.

An investigation by the Nassau County Gang Investigation Squad, the Third Precinct and the Hempstead Police Department led to Lake's arrest on Monday.

Lake is charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
