Nassau Police ID Man Killed In Shooting

Police say the man was shot multiple times in the early morning Sunday and left for dead.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police have identified a Hempstead man as the person who was shot multiple times and killed in the village over the weekend.

According to police, Hempstead Police Department officers responded to a Shot Spotter activation near Olsen Place at 12:19 a.m. on April 26. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Taleek R. Smith, of Hempstead, had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medic.

Police are still investigating this murder. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
